The Rooiberg Eco Ride - entries close 31st March!
The Rooiberg Eco Ride is a three day stage ride in autumn over 160 km in the pristine Waterberg nature area, Limpopo. Its format is changing in 2010 from a race to a ride in order to allow participants to savor the 70 km of unique custom built single track offered by the area. Entries are open to single riders and groups of riders over 15 years of age (unless permission is specifically granted for younger children). The start and finish for day 1 and day 2, as well as the event village will be based at Jakkalsdans Hotel in Rooiberg. Day 3's finish will be 30km from Rooiberg. Transport for riders requiring transportation back to Rooiberg will be provided for. Groups will leave each day in a staggered way to avoid congestion on single track as follows:
Saturday 24 April
The first group will start at 14h00 on a 30km ride. The late afternoon start makes it possible for participants to drive up to Rooiberg on the Saturday morning and first book into their lodges. The riders will have a sundowner stop (with drinks and snacks) at a look out point 8 km from the finish. The back riders will be able to take an 8 km short cut (optional), and will need lights as they are likely to finish in the dark.
Sunday 25 April*The first group starts at 07h00 on a 58km ride. A tea stop will be positioned at 25 km, with brunch at 50 km in the bush. Two 10km short cuts will be made available for slower riders (after the tea stop) and one 5km short cut after the brunch stop.
Monday 26 April*
The first group starts at 07h00 on a 59km ride. A tea stop will be positioned at 20 km, with brunch at 45 km in the bush. There will be one 18km short cut shortly after the start available for slower riders. It will however bypass the tea stop, so careful thought will have to be made around this one!
*Includes a magnificent high tea stop and full brunch in the bush each day!
